Metal Framing Screws
A complete range of metal framing screws for drywall track, ceiling systems, light-gauge steel framing and exterior cladding. Self-drilling wafer head and low profile pancake head profiles, stocked in the UK and available for next-day delivery.
Precision Fixings for Metal-to-Metal and Sheet Metal Applications
Selecting the correct metal framing screw is essential on any dry lining, steel stud, ceiling grid or cladding installation. Using a screw with the wrong head profile, drill tip or thread specification for the substrate thickness will result in poor clamping, stripped threads or a fixing that sits proud of the surface and interferes with board or panel installation. This collection brings together the head types and sizes most commonly specified by dry liners, steel frame installers, cladding contractors and groundworkers throughout the UK.
Every screw in this range is self-drilling and designed to fix metal to metal without the need for pre-drilling or pilot holes, saving considerable time on repetitive fixing tasks across large frame and track installations. Products are available in zinc and silver Ruspert exterior-grade finishes, covering both internal and sheltered external applications.
Metal Framing Screws by Head Type
The two head profiles in this collection serve distinct purposes across metal framing and sheet metal fixing applications. Choosing the correct head type ensures the screw seats correctly against the substrate, delivers the necessary clamping force and produces a clean, flush finish that does not obstruct the materials being fixed over or adjacent to it.
Wafer Head Screws
Wafer head screws feature a wide, flat head with a low profile that distributes clamping force across a larger surface area than a standard self-drilling head. This makes them the correct choice for stitching drywall track and ceiling track together, and for fixing thin sheet metal sections where a conventional head would distort or lift the material around the fixing point. The large bearing surface of the wafer head ensures the fixing holds securely without breaking through or deforming the substrate. Suitable for metal-to-metal applications up to 3.0mm total thickness.
Low Profile Pancake Head Screws
The low profile pancake head is a medium-duty metal framing screw designed for fixing steel to steel in exterior and exposed framing applications. The flat underside of the pancake head sits flush against the material surface and provides excellent clamping across a wide contact area, making it the preferred choice for external cladding rails, steel purlin connections and any application where the fixing head must remain as unobtrusive as possible. Available in 19mm and 26mm lengths with a Silver Ruspert exterior coating rated to over 500 hours of salt spray resistance.
Wafer Self Driller Screws
Our wafer self driller screws are engineered specifically for constructing drywall track and ceiling track systems, where speed of installation and consistency of fixing quality are both critical. The self-drilling point eliminates the need for a separate pilot hole in metal sections up to 3.0mm thick, allowing the installer to work directly through the track with a standard impact driver and PH2 bit.
The 60 degree coarse thread provides high pull-out resistance and positive clamping between track sections, ensuring the frame holds its alignment during board installation. The zinc finish offers Corrosion Rating 1 protection, making these screws suited to clean, dry and low-humidity internal environments as specified under CE standard BS EN 14566:2008.
Heavy-Duty Steel Framing Screws
Where the framing application demands greater holding strength or the steel section being fixed is thicker than the range covered by standard wafer head fixings, our heavy-duty steel framing screws provide the additional drill tip capacity and thread engagement required. The self-drilling point on these fixings is engineered to penetrate harder and thicker steel sections consistently without wandering or deflecting, which is particularly important when working through doubled-up track or when fixing into cold-formed steel members rather than standard drywall gauge material.
The silver exterior finish on the heavy-duty range provides enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard zinc-plated fixings, making them a suitable choice for applications in partially exposed or semi-external environments such as rainscreen cladding supports, soffit framing and external facade steelwork where the fixing will be covered but may be subject to condensation or intermittent moisture exposure during and after installation.
Stainless Steel Screws for Wood and Metal
For applications where the fixing point will be exposed to persistent moisture, coastal conditions or chemical environments, standard zinc or silver-plated carbon steel screws may not provide sufficient long-term corrosion resistance. Stainless steel screws for wood and metal offer a higher level of protection for exposed fixing points in exterior framing, rainscreen cladding and architectural metalwork where the screw head will remain visible or accessible after installation.
For permanent outdoor structural connections in timber rather than metal framing, our exterior green timber screws carry a dedicated treatment-compatible coating and are the appropriate choice for post, beam and pergola construction.
Finish and Corrosion Rating Guide: Zinc-plated wafer head fixings in this collection carry Corrosion Rating 1, suited to clean, dry and low-humidity internal environments. The Silver Ruspert exterior coating on the low profile pancake head range is tested to over 500 hours of salt spray resistance and is the appropriate choice for sheltered external framing applications. For fully exposed outdoor structural fixings in timber, refer to our decking and timber screws which carry a dedicated exterior green coating rated for permanent outdoor structural use.
Choosing the Correct Metal Framing Screw
As a practical guide, the total combined thickness of the metal sections being joined should not exceed the maximum drilling capacity of the screw being used. For standard drywall track stitching where two sections of light-gauge steel are being fixed together, the wafer self driller screws at 4.2mm diameter cover the majority of installations up to 3.0mm total metal thickness. For heavier steel sections or external framing applications requiring an exterior-rated finish, the 5.5mm pancake head range at 19mm or 26mm length provides the additional drill tip capacity and Silver Ruspert corrosion protection required.
For general joinery and timber fixing applications on the same project, our multi-purpose woodscrews cover the full range of countersunk, pan head and reduced head profiles needed for cabinetry, carcassing and hardware fixing alongside the structural metalwork.
