Choosing the correct sandpaper roll grit is one of the most important decisions when preparing timber, metal or filled surfaces for finishing. Too coarse and you risk leaving deep scratches that show through paint or varnish; too fine on rough timber and the job takes far longer than it should. 120 Grit Sandpaper Rolls

Choosing the Correct Grit
As a practical guide, most sanding jobs benefit from working through at least two grit stages. For rough or unfinished timber, start with 60 grit sandpaper rolls to remove material quickly, then follow with 80 grit to remove the coarse scratch pattern before finishing with 120 grit sandpaper rolls for a smooth, paint-ready surface.
For previously painted or primed surfaces that simply need flatting between coats, 120 grit sandpaper rolls are typically sufficient on their own. For stripping back to bare wood or removing heavy contamination, begin with 60 grit before progressing through the sequence.
